An ideal location

Only after much research on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts did we understand the reasons why two thirds of Costa Ricans and most resident foreigners live on the Central Valley: a perfect climate, the proximity of services (hospitals, schools, commercial centers) and the possibility of accessing the whole country easily.

Where is it located ?

The Central Valley is this part of Costa Rica at an average altitude of 1000 meters above sea level, enclosed by the Central Cordillera and stretching from San Ramon to Cartago through San José, the national capital, Alajuela and Heredia. This valley, 80 kilometers long by 30 kilometers wide, is approximately one hour from the Pacific and two hours from the Atlantic by car. Two million Ticos live in this "meseta" and are blessed with a quality of life more similar to North American or European standards with respect to infrastructures, services and economic growth.

The town of Atenas

Atenas (5000 inhabitants, 18000 with the suburbs) is located on the Central Valley's western edge, at an altitude of 700-800 meters above the sea level. This town is the hub of a prosperous agricultural area, known for its breeding farms and exceptional orchards; you can find a community health center, ambulances, schools, banks, boutiques and most services. Atenas is a quiet little town, very clean and very pretty, with its white immaculate church and its central park lined with palm trees.
The atmosphere is laid-back, the people hardworking  and the social inequalities are not noticeable.  Already approximately 100 North Americans and Europeans have chosen to live in the area; moreover many ticos from San Jose have a country estate (quinta) in the surrounding hills.

• 25 kilometers (15 miles) to the airport of Alajuela

• 50 kilometers (30 miles) to the capital, San Jose

• 60 kilometers (36 miles) to the Pacific ocean

Tourism and activities

Atenas, due to its geographical location, is the main bus terminal between San Jose and the Pacific ocean. Boat lovers  can easily access the whole Pacific coast and the best fishing grounds, whether in the Northern Guanacaste or in the Southern Golfo Dulce area, from many marinas located from Puntarenas to Jaco.
